 Kindergarten English Teacher
( MANDARIN  PROGRAM )

My name is Pat Savage and I am excited to be teaching kindergarten in Broadway Elementary’s Mandarin Immersion program. I have taught a variety of grade levels, but I especially love teaching kindergarten! It is a pleasure to be part of a dynamic teaching team where ideas are shared and where doing our best for the children is an every-day goal. The support of our kindergarten parents and the enthusiasm and charm of our students make this such a special place to teach.

I was born and raised in southern Alberta, Canada. I studied rehabilitation medicine at the University of Alberta, where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy. I specialized in pediatric neurology, working with children with cerebral palsy and developmental disabilities.

When my husband had a work opportunity open up here in Los Angeles, we left Canada for what we thought would be a three-month stint. Three months have become twenty-two years!  We have raised our two daughters here, and my involvement in their education subsequently led me to pursue my multiple-subject credential.

As a teacher, it is my goal to create a classroom culture in which students flourish intellectually, socially and emotionally. Part of making this happen is establishing a positive learning environment where students feel happy, safe and able to participate fully in their education in their own unique way. I aim to model a love of learning by trying out new ideas, and by collaborating with parents and colleagues to make my classroom dynamic and rich in both content and ideas.
